About This Project

Introduction

According to the book, 1980s: FASHION TAIPEI, the time 80s was a very special and brilliant era in Taiwan, which included the economic restructuring, emergence of the first McDonald's, Taiwan stock index topped the 10,000-point mark, 80s Disco trend, the sales war between department stores, lifted hair ban, and the rise of the first legal Discotheque.[1] We can see that Taipei city in the 80s was on fire. As a result of Taiwan's economic success and the trend of modernization, Taipei began to show unprecedented appearances from the aspects of fashion, food, consumption, entertainment, and even fancy nightlife. Besides, with gaining a more even distribution of income, people became more self-aware and started to pursue a better quality of life. Therefore, the eighties was regarded as an era of booming various recreational activities, such as young people would date in MTV, ice rinks, shaved ice shops, or record stores. Or a bunch of friends would hang out together in discotheques, amusement arcades, shrimp fishing fields, or even billiard rooms to consume their time together. These places were particularly favorable and popular among the youth and the young couples at that time.

Our Motivation

With the rapid development of technology and the changing social environment, people, especially young people in our generation, no longer go to these obsolete and traditional entertainment venues. Instead, they are attracted by other more interesting and trendy recreational activities. However, the eighties was an irreplaceable era that brought about what we have and what the city is nowadays. It's important for each peer to know and realize the trendy culture in the past. Therefore, in order to keep and inherit the memories of every citizen who once grew up in the eighties, the emergence of different kinds of entertainment were the critical parts that we would like to show and promote to the public in our project. Without a doubt, the significance of the eighties is incomparable, it reveals not only the cultural development but also the economic growth of Taiwan in the eighties.

Overall, we will show what exactly the classic old-fashioned dates are through our vivid and immersive journals. Let's get ready to go back to the time 80s! Hope you will enjoy it!
